Meath Crew Win HASS Drive of the Day Award in Monaghan
Thomas Carolan and Declan Smith from Co. Meath claimed the HASS Border Rally Championship Drive of the Day Award on the 2009 Monaghan Stages Rally. The Ford Escort pairing won the award by setting fastest time for a Border Championship registered crew in class 9 on special stage 4 of the event - Smithborough 2.
Carolan and Smith were presented with their prizes at rally finish by John Duffy, registrar for the HASS Border Championship. They become the second recipients of the award in 2009 following the success of Donegal's Noel O'Donnell and Ronan Murrin on the opening round of the championship in Mayo.
The Meath crew were delighted to win the award. "We had a good run and were 41 seconds faster than our first time over the stage" said co-driver Declan Smith. " We made a better tyre choice" added Thomas Carolan "To win this award is great and to make it even better we won our class on the rally as well".
The Drive of the Day Award is presented at each of the six rounds of the 2009 HASS Border Rally Championship. Open to all registered championship competitors, a class and stage are selected at random before the start of the rally, with the winner being the fastest crew in the class on that stage to finish the rally.
