Local Crew Win HASS Drive of the Day Award on the Donegal Harvest Rally
James Browne and Terence Magee from Donegal have won the final HASS Border Rally Championship Drive of the Day Award for 2009.
The Ford Escort pairing claimed the sought after prize on the Donegal Harvest Rally by being the fastest Border Championship registered crew in class 13 on special stage 3 to finish the event.
Cavan's Russell Woods and Martin Byrne had set the fastest time on stage 3, but following their retirement later in the rally, it left the way clear for Browne and Magee to bring their Escort safely home to claim the award on their local event. The pair were presented with their prizes at the rally finish by Ken Henderson of Border Championship sponsors Henderson Auto Sport & Spares (HASS).
Browne and Magee join a select band of HASS Drive of the Day Award winners for 2009. Previous recipients included Donegal's Noel O'Donnell and Ronan Murrin on the Mayo Stages Rally, while Thomas Carolan and Declan Smith from Meath were victorious on the Monaghan Stages Rally. Another Meath crew - that of Peter Wilson and John Kilmurry claimed the award on the Cavan Stages Rally, while Donegal's Daniel Conaghan and Trevor Graham were winners on the Mourne Rally. On the Sligo Stages Rally, Monaghan's John Kelly and Adrian Flynn were the most recent recipients of the award.
The Drive of the Day Award is presented at each of the six rounds of the 2009 HASS Border Rally Championship. Open to all registered championship competitors, a class and stage are selected at random before the start of the rally, with the winner being the fastest crew in the class on that stage to finish the rally.
